Cultural Notes
As the Bride and Groom represent several rich and significant cultural and spiritual traditions, their wedding will join these traditions into a celebration of the blessings of our heritage. Here are the cliff notes to the sacred events you'll share with the wedding party.

The Lucky Lion Dance
Rob has been studying Kung Fu for three years under Sifu Bob Rosen in the Wah Lum system. Wah Lum Kung Fu Boston performs Lion Dances for Chinese New Year, store openings, weddings, births and other special events. The Chinese Lion Dance is traditionally performed by martial arts schools and is considered a blessing and an assurance of good luck. Rob himself often performs with the group, taking turns as the head and tail of the lion, the happy buddha, and as a percussionist. The Lion is not native to China and is considered a magical, lucky creature. The Lion scares away evil, and by accepting a gift of food or money, blesses the wedding party and guests. Wah Lum pai performs a southern lion dance and will entertain the crowd and eat a plate of oranges and lettuce. The bride and groom invite their guests to participate in feeding the lion and thus bring good fortune upon all. Lucky red envelopes will be provided at the reception which contain a small amount of money. At one point in the performance, the lion will make the circuit of the crowd. At that point please walk up to the lion and offer him the envelope. The lion will take the envelope from your hand with its mouth (it won't bite, we promise) thus "eating" the gift. We hope every one really enjoys the performance, and we wish everyone the best of fortune.
